Justin Hemenway
Co-Founder, Managing Partner
Justin is a thoughtful and confident leader, who thrives in high-pressure situations while casting an unwavering sense of calm to those around him. Contrary to the more serious nature of that connotation, he also rarely misses an opportunity to find fun in those same situations. Whether a complex business challenge or the waning minutes of an escape room countdown, Justin’s curious approach to solving problems and excellent communication skills are sure to elevate the result.
As Uplvl co-founder and partner, Justin’s responsibilities include new business inquiries, client onboarding and success, strategic initiatives, financial analysis, and project planning. He also serves as primary success coach for our internal team leads, where he leverages his unique blend of mentorship and industry expertise, paired with occasional dad jokes. Prior to Uplvl, Justin spent two decades on the property ownership and management side of the industry, where his career started as a seasonal leasing agent at Forest City Realty Trust and ultimately progressed to the multifamily executive level, more recently as a Vice President for Brookfield Properties. Brookfield acquired Forest City in late 2018, at which time Justin was responsible for oversight of the national multifamily development and lease-up pipeline for Forest City’s management company. Post acquisition, Justin eventually transitioned over to the Brookfield Northeast Development team, where he leveraged his wealth of operating and lease-up experience to support development planning, underwriting, and design for the New York and Washington DC metropolitan markets.
Justin lives and breathes the team’s passion for knowledge sharing, developing others, and instilling the tools and confidence necessary for our client partners to execute at the highest level. He also is a strong proponent of the importance of an optimal work-life balance and strives to lead by example while fostering a culture grounded by mutual accountability. While his laptop is powered down, you’d expect to find Justin traveling, enjoying outdoor activities, or on some type of adventure with his wife Noemi, and two sons, Carter and Mateo.
